Summer in New England is a beautiful thing. Not only do we have beautiful warm weather, but also beautiful coastlines on which to enjoy it. And don’t forget about the delicious seafood! But I digress. Summer in New England is truly a special time, and it’s also a great opportunity to show off amazing warm weather looks. The shoreline becomes a runway to strut your coolest (pun intended) stuff. And while summer is not here yet, now is a great time to start editing your wardrobe, and getting it ready for those beautiful warm summer days! Here are some tips i’m how to be summer chic in New England!
Bright colors. It’s summer! Embrace this vibrant season by embracing colors. No New England girl’s closet is complete without Lilly Pulitzer, and for good reason. Her gorgeous prints make you feel happy just looking at them, and her use of colors and nautical prints has a uniquely coastal and feminine vibe. Little touches like gold buttons and scalloped edges really make her pieces pop. And while her items can be pricey, they are a pretty common find at TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, and thrift stores. Another boutique brand that has a similar style is Mahi Gold. They have super feminine styles with a nautical twist. I bought one of their dresses at a boutique on the Cape. It was a bit of an investment, but the material is luxurious, and the dress truly embodies New England in the summer, and I get compliments every time I wear it.
Gold nautical accents. Embrace your inner mermaid. Add a gold starfish bracelet, seashell earrings, or pearls to your outfit to give it instant beachy vibes. A gold anchor necklace or seashell belt takes an outfit from zero to summer in no time. And, let’s be honest, nothing makes us feel more like a summer goddess than a great piece of sea inspired jewelry.
White and blue. Marshall’s is a treasure trove of incredible finds. It takes patience to comb through their many racks, but doing so it definitely worth it. There’s always a great deal to be found, but sometimes, you snag a unicorn; an elusive upscale brand that’s usually only available by shopping at a posher locale. One such find for me was this French Connection dress, and a great example of a classic, summer-in-New England style. Normally I dress like this would cost around $200, but I got it for a fraction of that price at Marshall’s! Anyone living in New England will tell you that here, summer style is definitely preppy. And nothing is more classic and preppy than a white and blue stripe. Having a dress like this is a wardrobe must-have. In this picture, I wore it to a local Style Week after party, which was actually held in a parking garage. I paired it with layered necklaces, bangle bracelets, and hot pink pumps.
Just a few simple ways to ensure that your style game sizzles just like the summer heat!
