I’ve been a football fan for as long as I can remember. I’ve been rooting for the Patriots since Bledsoe was the starting qb, and Starter jackets were all the rage. We’ve come quite a way since then, both in football and fashion. The football world began to realize that we girls liked football, too, and wanted to rep our favorite team and/or player in something other than a giant football jersey that felt like wearing a garbage bag.
Currently, there are a plethora of options to ensure that you look cute on game day - a seemingly endless array of them! And as we’ve seen with celebs such as Taylor Swift and Olivia Culpo, getting dressed for the game can require the same precision as preparing to get ready for any other day. Basically, it may be football, but it’s still about fashion.
Now, you can shell out some serious coin for custom pieces (like Taylor’s famous puffer jacket), but it doesn’t necessarily take that much to look super chic on Sunday. For me, I’ve always loved mixing feminine with masculine, so this is kind of in my wheelhouse. Players jerseys can be pricey, so I always have my eye out for team merch at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s. They do not disappoint. I scored this authentic Brady jersey (pictured) for a fraction of what it cost in the pro shop, and I saved even more, because I got it in the kids department. Suspend your disbelief for a second, because the kids jerseys fit much like a tunic top, and look just like the adult jerseys - they’re not overtly juvenile in any way. I layer mine with a blue Cynthia Rowley tunic, a chic pair of leggings, sometimes with ruching detail, and stacked bracelets and other jewelry to amp up the femininity. I live in New England, and it can get pretty cold, so I pair it with Ugg Boots, like the cardigan version seen here, to stay cozy, comfortable, but still cute as I enjoy the good food and company of friends and family watching the game.
So to recap: you don’t need a ton of money to look amazing on game day. Just use the same editing eye you do when getting dressed for any occasion. You don’t even need to wear a team merchandise to do it. For example, if you’re a Forty Niners fan, their colors are red and gold, so maybe pair a cute red top with black jeans, and lots of sparkly gold jewelry, or just a gold belt and boots if you favor a minimalist aesthetic. So whether it’s Super Bowl Sunday, or a regular season game, you’ll still score a fashion win!
